Jim Corbett National Park is one of India’s oldest, and rather iconic wildlife reserves, it was established in 1936 in the scenic foothills of the Himalayas, in Uttarakhand.

Covering more than 1,300 square kilometers , it is well known for Royal Bengal Tigers, and it acts as a flagship destination under India’s Project Tiger conservation program.

Safaris are offered across multiple zones— Bijrani, Dhikala, Jhirna, Durgadevi, and Sitabani — via thrilling jeep and canter safari options, made for every kind of visitor who comes in.

Even beyond tigers, the park is packed with elephants, leopards, crocodiles, deer, and over 500 bird species, so it feels like a dream spot for wildlife lovers as well as photographers.

Tourism Zones

Jim Corbett National Park spans over 1,300 sq km and is divided into several distinct zones, each with its own unique character and wildlife

Dhikala Zone

The largest and most beautiful tourist area of Corbett Tiger Reserve, known for vast grasslands, riverbanks, and dense Sal and mixed forests.

Safari TypeCanter

Day visitors cannot take jeep safaris here; only Canter safari is available. Open from 15th November to 15th June. Entry via Dhangarhi Gate, 18 km from Ramnagar.

Bijrani Zone

The first choice among day tourists, famous for its vast grasslands, deep forests, and elephant safaris.

Located about 1 km from Ramnagar, with an entry at Aamdanda Gate. Up to 30 vehicles are permitted per shift. Open from October to June.

Jhirna Zone

Situated on the southern border of Corbett Reserve, it offers frequent tiger sightings.

Along with tigers, wild bears are the main attraction, along with elephants, sambar, various deer species, and rich birdlife. It is the only tourist zone in Corbett open throughout the year.

Dhela Zone

Added to Corbett's tourism zones in November 2014, it features mixed topography with dense Sal, Haldu, and Rohini forests, vast grasslands, and water bodies.

Safari TypeJeep Safari

Wildlife includes tigers, leopards, elephants, Nilgai, deer, and wild bears. Like Jhirna, it remains open throughout the year.

Sitabani Forest Zone

Located outside the Corbett Tiger Reserve, it is a reserve forest buffer zone rich in natural beauty, with thick forests, river streams, and ancient temples.

It has gained popularity as a walking destination linked to the Hindu epic Ramayana, where Goddess Sita is believed to have spent time during her exile.

Durgadevi Zone

Located in the northeastern corner of Jim Corbett National Park, Durgadevi Zone is renowned for its most beautiful, hilly landscape.

Safari TypeJeep Safari

It holds more wild elephants than any other zone and is especially famous for birdwatching. Entry is via Durgadevi Gate, 28 km from Ramnagar. Open October to June; Lohachaur FRH offers night stay.

Garjiya Zone

A core safari zone, kind of adjacent to Bijrani and Dhikala, you can enter through Ringora Gate.

It’s well known for high chances of tiger sightings, good biodiversity overall, and for the iconic Garjiya Devi Temple, sitting on a rock right in the Kosi River, kind of overlooking everything.

Phato Zone

On January 2, 2022, a newer tourism zone was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi, and Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, sort of in one go.

The place is in the Ramnagar Forest Division , and it provides gypsy safaris through thick woods where tigers, leopards and a mix of many bird species can be spotted.

Sonanadi Zone

It is part of the Corbett Tiger Reserve, sitting along the Sona Nadi (Gold River) banks.

This pristine, a bit off the beaten track forest stretch gives you a slow paced wildlife moment, where elephants and tigers are around, plus really excellent bird watching chances.

Hathi Dagar Zone

Wilderness

A newer eco tourism zone was inaugurated on March 7 2024, sort of, and it covers 35 sq. km.

Its entry gate sits near Maldhan village, roughly about 5 km from NH-121, a place like that. You can find tigers, leopards, elephants, deer, plus a lot of raptor species too.

Bhandarpani Zone

Located in the northwestern section of Corbett, this calm and a little less-frequented safari zone, is kind of known for thick forests, a lot of biodiversity, and pleasing scenic views.

Mohaan Zone

A calm little village in the Uttarakhand foothills, sort of acting as a threshold to Corbett wilderness.
